1998 WG idle issue

my buddy got a 1998 dyna wide glide and we went for a ride half way down the road the engine cut out. when we got it back to the garage we made sure the wires were connected to the plugs and took the air cleaner off it started up and drove around the block and stayed running no problem then 30 min later started stalling out and wouldnt start, it turns over the battery is new and we have no idea whats wrong. if someone has had this problem let me know what i need to do to fix it thanks

Things to check, battery connections are tight, gas cap is venting properly, check coil , check crank sensor

need 3 things, fuel air spark, make sure these 3 things are good

thanks i pulled the plugs out today and they were completely black so going to get new ones tomorrow, checked the battery and the wires were tight, gas cap was tight its the stock one so not sure if its vented or not, just hoping its not the carb

I just had the almost same thing happen to me. But my plugs were white - turns out it was the seal that presses in the manifold and keeps the carb snug.
It was dry and torn. The ethanol gas is eating these things.Just changed it today and all good.

I had a similiar experiance. The bike would run fine and then just die with no warning. Got worse and took longer to start each time. Ended up being the crank sensor. Changed it out and never had the same problem.

ill check the crank sensor and the seal. we put in the new plugs and boom started right up and idled alot better but then died, we would get it to run for about 3 seconds and then it would die, after a few tries the carb started making a popping sound and blow out white smoke so we called it a day. still hoping we dont have to rebuild the carb
