My wife hated the stock Fatboy seat too, I just ordered a Mustang Tourer (Solo saddle and rear pad). GMcycles on Ebay. Good prices and FAST service. (Ordered Sun. night-shipped today UPS)
Depends on what size and weight your "other half" is. Like Bicho de Tortuga said, the sundowner is a good choice. My "significant other" is quite significant and she likes it.
I had a Corbin seat with a nice huge adjustable backrest and my better half loved it. It shapes to your butt after an x amount of miles and it felt great
I have a lowrider and my wife was complaining after a short 5 mile trip. I'm also looking for another seat. I've got some ridding buddies who recommend Mustang. I have a Corbin on my Buell, but they require a break in period during which time they are sort of ruff on the hind end. The sundowner looks promising. I'd like a seat that I could switch to a solo seat when it is just me.
Mustang is the way to go. I've had mine for a year now and just gets better. Orginally thought it moved me foward too much, but after checking a new bike with the solo, I like mine better. The passenger pillion is comfy as well. Don't forget a sissy bar and backrest for the wife.
My wife willingly, albeit painfully, put 3.5k on the stock LowRider seat. The day she lloked at me and said "My a$$ can't take it anymore" was the day we went and brought home a sundowner.
We have put on more 300-500 mile rides than I can count and have always found the sundowner to be exceptionally comfortable. I like it a lot as well for solo since I can sink down in and back on this seat and have a very relaxed, stretched out riding position.
Wife is 5'10" and about 145, I am around 6'1" +/- and about 205 lbs.
We have the standard 2 up seat Harley sells with out 2000 FXDS. Wife was complaining on longer rides about her seat. Sent the seat to Allen with MeanCityCycles and had him remove the Harley foam and replace it with hospital grade memory foam. Put the same cover back on and you cant tell its not a stock seat. Until you sit on it. WOW!! WHat a difference it makes. His modification was under $150 for the whole seat, and very worthwhile. I would recommend his work to anyone!! Excellent person to work with!
