just looking for some info. i am looking at ordering a '15 street bob and am interested in the burly slammer kit. how does everyone find them? any pros / cons?
Most of the posts I see of the slammer rear shocks is negative. Use the search function and you'll see what I mean. Mostly that they bottom out easily.
Take this with a grain of salt as I personally have never used them.
I had the kit on my 2011 street bob... the ride was rough but it looked killer. I also noticed an increase in the "dyna death wobble" at high speeds (above 70mph or so). If you are riding shorter rides around town and bar hopping go for it, but if you plan on doing a lot of highway mile, you may regret it... on the other hand, they are cheap, and relatively easy to sell if you don't like them.
It looks great,no handling issues, the ride can be a little harsh just depends on the roads in your neighborhood and of course ground clearance suffers on turns and driveway curbs but did i say it looks good?
Cons:
- scraping of the pipe, primary, pegs is much more frequent.
- rougher ride.
I was able to ride 2-up with two clicks on the pre-load (I weigh 185-190, never had anyone over 130 ride on back with me). I even rode nearly 1800 miles (solo) to Sturgis and back with them and it wasn't terrible, but I'm NOT going back to them after installing my Progressive 970s.
I never noticed handing issues as a result. But I can now ride my bike much more aggressively.
However, I did just install Burly Slammers on my 2000 Sportster... but I'm not taking that on any long rides any time soon.
