Installed new levers on the bike today- some cheap drag specialties black ones, just because I was tired of the stock looking different from the rest of the bike. Easy install, however, upon inspection and test ride, I ran into an issue- found that the brake lever has a fair amount of travel up and down.
The front brake is functioning great, and the lever has plenty of tension back and forth, but it's loose enough up and down to rattle slightly at 40+ mph. I took the new lever back off and inspected it in comparison to the OEM lever, and found that a tab on the lever is slightly smaller than OEM, which may be the issue. I reinstalled the OEM and found that it too has a slight amount of up and down travel, but not near as much.
Anyway, I ride pretty hard and this ain't gonna fly. I'd like to purchase some different ones, or I might powder coat the OEM. Worried if I purchase some new ones I'll run into the same issue. Question is- is there a shim available or something else I might do to fix the problem? Has anyone else run into this issue?
Thanks
Same problem with the chrome clutch lever on my LR, rattles like hell. Partially because the pin is loose, and the lever to housing clearance is really sloppy. There's a plastic anti-rattle tab inside just like the OEM lever but it don't do squat. I squeezed the lever housing a bit to tighten it up but then the lever snags before it fully releases. Don't know what make these are but they're crap and gonna be replaced with stock as soon as I have some spare funds. Never had any issue with the stock levers on my Sportster, those had a smooth, quality feel to them in comparison to these POS.
