Anybody have a line on a part number for a brighter bulb to fit my stock headlight? If a guy goes with a brighter bulb will I run into heat issues?(lightbulb burning out due to excessive heat) also is there any truth to the rumors about automotive bulbs not being vibration resistant enough for bikes?
the only lamp i know for sure than causes heat issues is the hella 80/100w bulbs. a ceramic plug fixes most of it.
i've had the sylvania silverstars in my fatbob for 20k miles and no problems for what its worth.
the fatbob uses a standard h13 bulb. think the rest of the dynas use h4 but i could be wrong.
Since 2010 I have purchased two sets of LED aux lights and the last set just clouded over on my trip to Alaska. I have complete LED lights on my '05 Fat Boy from Custom Dynamics in NC. They finally just started selling the headlights and passing (aux) lights in LED from JW Speaker. They have an limited lifetime warranty if you are original owner. The rest of their lights are all lifetime warranty. I finally tossed the HD lighting since the motor company refused to warranty them beyond a year and could care less that you spend $800 on two sets of aux lights and they always fail at about 2 years if you really ride like I do.
Love the JW Speaker LED's so far. I will keep you all posted.
Be careful with the truck lite as it protrudes about a half inch from the headlight bucket and looks odd unless you purchase a different trim ring.
I have Daymakers on a Dyna and a Softail, and I'm completely satisfied except for the costs. I got over that pain quickly after riding with the brighter lights.
Exactly!
Have two Sporties which have LED H4 bulbs. Significantly brighter than stock, but they don't have the reach that the Daymaker on my LR does. I'd gladly spend the money again, knowing what a difference the DM makes.
I put a bosch h4 bulb in mine , it was the super bright one , look on back of package it shows the brightest and buy that one . its like night and day difference for under 30 bucks
+1
I went with the Sylvania silverstar I believe (whatever the brightest bulb option is). Huge improvement over stock and can be purchased at walmart.
Whatever you do, I would advise against going with a drop in LED bulb. The headlight bucket is designed to project light from a traditional style bulb. If your going to make the jump to LED do it with a complete unit which will have a bucket designed to project tat light most effectively.
I tried the $50 drop in LED bulb and the light pattern was horrible. It comes out in a tight focused pattern which is terrible for night driving.
I just picked up the 2016 Fatbob and looking to replace the 2 heads with leds.
Are the sizes on this bike 7" headlight?
Looking at the Harley site at the Daymakers..and 800 is alot for those lights.
Anywhere else with choices?
If you want LED, look at TruckLite Phase 7 or the JW Speaker 8700. They manufacture the two daymakers for Harley. I went with a TruckLite in my FLD.
I know other around here have successfully swapped the bulb for other types of HID lighting.
If you are looking at the JW Speaker 8700, make sure you are getting the newest version. They have put out the 8700 Evolution 2 and they changed the light beam pattern drastically. The older 8700 will be down priced and I highly encourage you to spend the extra on the Evo 2. The original Daymaker is basically the first version of the JW Speaker Evo 1 projection headlight and they were originally designed for cages. The jeeps. They did not have to worry as much about the light patterns because they are using 2 of them. With the Harley, they are bright but the light beam on the original 8700 seems to be too focused and people complain that they cannot see the sides of the road too well and they are not that great in the twisties. I personally went with the Fuel Moto LED bulb kit in my stock headlight bucket. Love them at a fraction of the cost. Great upgrade over stock.
