I recently rode a 150 miles in the dark and realized just how poor my factory headlight illuminates the road. I try not to ride a lot after dark, but I definitely need to upgrade my headlight. Should I just bite the bullet and buy the Day Maker or are there other headlights out there that are more economical, and substantially brighter than the factory headlight on a '12 Dyna?
in 5 3/4 the daymaker is really the only led option. in the 7" headlights the trucklight is a nice option. there are also a few drop in options for longer headlight buckets.
for all headlight sizes hella makes some bright bulbs, as do sylvania and piaa. and theres always the hid conversion kits.
Be careful with the truck lite as it protrudes about a half inch from the headlight bucket and looks odd unless you purchase a different trim ring.
I have Daymakers on a Dyna and a Softail, and I'm completely satisfied except for the costs. I got over that pain quickly after riding with the brighter lights.
I put a bosch h4 bulb in mine , it was the super bright one , look on back of package it shows the brightest and buy that one . its like night and day difference for under 30 bucks
This sure brightened my nights
Cibie 7" lamp unit ($79), install an Osram Rallye 70/65w bulb, have a helper hold the bike upright while you aim the lamp per the "VOL" instructions at http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/aim/aim.html
Anybody have a line on a part number for a brighter bulb to fit my stock headlight? If a guy goes with a brighter bulb will I run into heat issues?(lightbulb burning out due to excessive heat) also is there any truth to the rumors about automotive bulbs not being vibration resistant enough for bikes?
The Osram Rallye that Fatboy1389 has listed in the post above yours is the brightest H4 bulb that Daniel Stern Lighting says can be used in a Harley without upgrading the wiring harness. I have them installed on both my Road Glide and Super Glide. I also updated the reflector (housing) on the Super Glide to the late model unit. I've had zero problems with overheating my wiring on either bike.
On the Road Glide, the effect is outstanding. I'm sure that's due to having dual headlights. On the Dyna, it's much better, but we're still not in LED territory. At $20-22 per bulb, it's a cost effective option.
