Keeping farb in saddle bags did not work. Finally had to recharge battery. On the way back disconnected the battery and it did the trick.

Back page of your owner's manual there should be a card (two if bike's new) that you can pop out and put in your wallet. It has the instructions for switching the alarm to transport mode.
I have to do it when I take my bike on the ferry to England. Never can remember the sequence. Just getting old.
It also tells you how to use the code when(!) you lose your fob/leave it in the garage/battery dies. It even has spaces for your code when you've changed it from the default.
