This is what I'm actually doing now. Glued pieces back together. Then attached a small metal bar to the inside. Once it's cured I'm going to drill a hole for the bolt.
I would 2 part epoxy a thin piece of tin and drill a hole for mounting and maybe do the good side as well.
My wife's 08 FXDF did a similar thing with the Led tailight, we lost a screw on the roadtrip and the weight of it hanging broke 1 mounting ear, 3 hardware stores later and 1 stainless screw, some epoxy, 1 screw driver and its mint
Fix it and ride
You said "not factory setup"....is it a '14 taillight on a pre-14 FXDF? If it's a '14, it would be warranty coverage wouldn't it? It looks like a '14 fender cuz the pre-14's are a duckbill rear fender like the older WG's.

It's a '14, but the brake light section isn't connected into the license plate holder(which adds a bit of support) after the plate relocation I did. So because the brake light/license plate holder/tail piece isn't being used according to factory setup, the warranty doesn't cover it. Didn't realize the material of the brake light arms was that brittle or I'd have reinforced it from the start. Fixed now though.

Oh ok. That's a bunch of crap though if you ask me!! Did you ask if they would cover it are you just guessing that they wouldnt? Maybe I missed that part...sorry if i did.

Oh I asked. Gave em a call and headed to the dealership as soon as I noticed it. It sucks but I figured it wouldn't be covered. I still can't belibe it costs 300 bucks. I was expecting maybe half that at the most.
Well, we may love their bikes and the feeling we get when we ride them, but that is a bad side to the equation. Everything is so expensive! But I'm sure that $300 includes EVERYTHING needed to replace it. But still. That's a bit pricey. Although it is an LED light and LED's aren't cheap.
Yes it is. I offset it by doing all of my own wrenching that I can. That though is just straight gouging. For that price I wish it was a bit better built to handle bumps and stuff. I tell ya if an impact breaks it now it won't matter because the impact will either have killed me or totaled the bike. Plus it's convinced me to go ahead and get those progressives 970s I've been eyeballing. Now if they'd just put out the monotube for the fxdf I could do the entire suspension in one sitting.
That sucks...I thought they made the monotube setup for Dyna's. It's not listed. Bummer. Maybe if enough of us complain about it, they'll make it? I mean how can they make it for Softails yet not Dyna's?! They know we're the hardest riding Harley bunch of owners. Sportster owners might be up there with us, but I think we take the top spot! Haha
They do make the setup for dyna's, but the fatbobs are the last ones in the class to get them. According to a thread from last month they should be releasing the monotubes by the end of the year if everything goes ok. Maybe a nice christmas present to myself.
