I'm still new on the forum and this might have been answered before but what is the best solo seat out there? '07 FXDB project. I need one that won't push me any closer to the tank (6'2"). I appreciate any opinions. Thanks for all the info.
I love my C&C seat. I've had it since 2008 and put close to 20k miles on it and it still looks new and is just as comfortable as when I bought it. Not to mention their customer service rocks when you call and speak to them. This picture was taken last year.
I've tried Corbin & Mustang - sold them both as they were close but not exact - I'm having a local shop here in Denver make me a custom seat next month for about the same amount of money as either one of them so it will be exactly what I want in comfort and fit
Saddles are very individual - you may need to try a few out before you find one you love
Also, you should consider what type of solo seat you want. Some have a small amount of foam and are narrow side to side (e.g. La Pera Bare Bones). These are probably more suited to shorter trips. Others are deeply padded, wide, and provide some sort of back rest (e.g., Mustang Vintage Solo). These are intended to remain comfortable on longer rides.
Of course, how long is a long ride and how long is a short ride, for you, is something only you know. Also, how your backside will feel on any given saddle is also entirely dependent on YOU, and no one can promise you that you'll like how a particular seat feels to you.
I've got a LePara (2-up) now (came with my bike) that's fairly comfortable. I only ride solo but it does have some slight back support. A few popular ones that come to mind that I've seen mentioned on here a lot are Mustang, Corbin and Sick Cycles. There are a few other independent ones I can't recall but a few of their custom ones with gel look very nice and are around the same price as Mustang/Corbin. I'll probably be going with a Mustang solo with removable backrest in the end. The only problem is that no one (around here) does any kind of demo-seat, so it's really a gamble.
I have both an HD Brawler solo (1st picture) and a Mustang Vintage solo (2nd picture). While the HD seat looks a little better (more narrow and form fitting), the Mustang has better back support and padding, and still looks pretty damn good.
I can slap on the back seat and my backrest in two minutes for the lady (3rd picture) and it still looks good!
