2012 Wide Glide Electrical Issues
Hey guys,
My '12 WG is acting up. I already checked the grounds and cleaned the battery terminals. I also checked all of the connections I could see on the harness. Here is what is happening.
The bike starts up fine. A the beginning of the ride (first few minutes), everything works as advertised. While I am riding, the speedometer back lighting will intermittently go out along with the indication panel. When this is occurring, the turn signals will work, but there is no indication of them working on the 'dummy' panel, same with the bike being in neutral.
After a little while, the red key light or whatever it is called (to the direct right of the center of the speedometer) will illuminate and all of my speedometer and dummy lights begin working again. I do not have the anti-theft system installed on the bike, so I dont know why that light is coming on.
I looked up how to read codes, and the bike is throwing a b2272 (bcm or speedometer high voltage).
Furthermore, I have noticed that in the afternoon on my ride home, the battery light will come on sometimes. I am pretty sure the battery is fine. It will start right up after I shut it off, and they are not hard starts.
I was going to get this looked at when I had the 5k servicing done, but it apparently didn't do it for the tech, and now my warranty is up.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
Wouldnt have a clue, but check fuse box, take out fuses, check them, put back in, unplug ecm connector and plug back in,
Have you taken off dash and checked connections underneath?
Thanks

In 2012 the MoCo installed the Body Control Module (BCM) in Dynas. This has caused issues on several bikes including mine. The issues can and do vary from bike to bike. My bike, for example, would intermittently stall while coasting to a stop. It took my dealer a wiring harness and 2 ECM's before they figured it out. BTW it never threw a code of any kind.
My new Street Bob has done exactly as you described since it hit about 50 miles on the odometer. Back light on the speedo goes out intermittently, the dash indicators for the turn signals and neutral indicator go out intermittently, the little red light pops on. My FP3 shows a code of B2272. The bike has run flawlessly otherwise. I took it to the dealer last week with 360 miles. Electrical issues are the one thing I'd have no clue how to handle. Still waiting for them to look at it, but I'll let you guys know what they say.
Edited to add: I don't know if it was coincidence or anything, but the only time I rode the bike where it showed no symptoms at all was a really cool night.

If this were a car, I would be checking for a bad earth somewhere and not necessary at the battery. Check all relevant connectors for dirt or corrosion and maybe clean them up just to be safe. Could be a number of things but I would always check the easy stuff first. Check you are getting good voltages away from the battery, wiggle wires and plugs to see if you can create the fault, could be a broken wire.
Easy to say but doings a different matter. Hope this helps.

In regards to my earlier post:
The dealer called and told me my bike was done. I asked what the issue was. They said there was no issue. They called HD who said there is a light sensor so the back light isn't supposed to come on until it's dark out. I asked about the code and why the lights didn't work while riding at midnight either. He said they didn't know that happened, so they'll have to look at it again. Too bad the work order listed all the things I said. They obviously didn't even try. I'll probably go another week without a bike while they do nothing. ****ing dealers, man.

thanks

Bike is at the dealer right now... Ill report back what they discovered. If they tell me that there isn't anything wrong, or blame it on something stupid like the battery, I'm going to probably trade it in for a Road King.
