Default Swapping Speedos

I recently picked up a used 2008 Super Glide. The speedo on it now has some fogging on the inside and I would like to swap it out. I have a speedo from my 2013 Iron that I could use, but when I plugged it in the mileage didn't transfer over.

Can I run it like this, or am I breaking some law? Obviously the mileage won't reflect the actual mileage of the bike.

Thanks in advance for the help

I think you can run it like that as long as you don't state that you actually know the correct mileage from here on out. It you ever sell it, you'll have to check the "speedometer inaccurate" or "mileage unknown" box on your title transfer papers (whatever markings your state uses.)

My Road Glide got totaled at 142,000 plus miles and the speedometer was destroyed. I bought the salvage back and I'm installing an aftermarket unit on the rebuilt bike. So we start at "0" once again.

For less than 300 you can get the HD digital analog combo from kutter or surdyke. It will transfer milage over and looks nice to boot. Had one on sporty with no issues and really liked it. Make sure you have the original in before you do the one I suggested so no vin errors come up.

I think you can get a wire harness that hooks up to the diagnostic port to your speedo and automatically transfers data over to the new unit, but I could be wrong, that harness I know of is when you buy a new speedo from harley which is what sleyedog suggested in his comment. However my friend 2013 has a different wireing configuration thatn a '08 bike which was changed over in 2012. For instance the aforementioned speedometer you buy for a '08 won't fit a 2013 bike so that may be why your 2013 part did nt naturally transfer over.

Now what I was tempted to say
