I want to replace the stock battery cover band and put a chrome skull battery cover band on it.
The new chrome one just sticks to the stock battery cover, after removing the stock band.
My question is has anyone put one on their Street Bob yet? Would you have a picture of it that you could post? The most important thing is did it stay secured with the tape alone to the wrinkle finish of the Street Bob battery cover?
I want to install the chrome one but I am very skeptical as to how well the adhesive tape will adhere to the wrinkle finish and I do not want the entire battery box to be chrome. I can't beleive that The MoCo couldn't make a battey cover band that secure to the battery cover better than this.
This is the cover band that I am looking at installing. This is just the trim band.
It sticks to it fine. Make sure you clean the area with alcohol/water solution and also it should be a nice warm day. I forget what temp. they say it should be.
Ihave a band which installed the same way and I've had good luck so far. I have a painted gloss finish on my cover.
I would not have any doubt that it would stay secure if my battery box had a smoothe finish under the stock trim band but as luck would have it, the entire box is wrinkle finished.
When I installed mine I did it in a climate controlled garage set at 68 degrees. The band I put on felt as if it wieghed 3 lbs. I did clean with rubbing alcohol first.
I have the similar chrome "Harley Davidson" scripted band...it's been on there for probably 8 or 9 months...all kinds of temps, riding, etc, and it's still on there tight.
I have the same one Veni has and put it on last nite. Just stuck it to the stock black box in my office over nite to let the adhesive get nice and sticky. It ain't goin' nowhere.
I do agree Moco could have come up with a better way of putting iton instead of some 3m tape.
