**update: Took it into the local custom shop here in Coquitlam and they're looking to see if the crankshaft may be bent! They'll be pulling covers tomorrow and have a better look.... obviously not what I wanted to hear and have my fingers crossed that it's something else.

Gentlemen, thank the EPA for your heat related issues. As the temps go up, the A/F Ratio changes and goes into the overheating mode. The idle will increase a little and the power will decrease a lot. Don't wanna live with it? Be Radical! Swap out the EFI for a good old CV 40. I did that on my 07 Street Bob 3 years ago, for around $500. No more Heat Related Issues, even when it hits 103 here in Texas.

Keep us posted on what they find ??????????????

I could understand the crank run out, but if that were the case you would be feeling an awe full vibration at all RPM's............

Wish I had a nickel for everytime I've heard a "bent crank" being the diagnosis for some silly problem lol. Geez...

So we took a look at the crankshaft as best as we could without pulling the top end off to measure the runout. There was no scoring or grooves on the end of the crank so it can't be excessive. There most likely is some runout though based on the way it shakes. Buttoned it all back together and am just going to run it till it blows ...if it blows.

As a side note the local custom shop down the road from me has a brand new 08 v-twin 96 for sale at 3 grand even. I'm tempted just to buy it and store it till I need it. Seems like a good price for a new engine and when I go looking I'm betting that deal won't be available.

If you are going to spend the 3,000 get a 103 ci.............

I would think that you could fix the issue you are having............

I tend to believe that maybe you are experiencing some very low oil pressure at low RPM's, replace your stock oil bypass plunger with the Baisley's set up.
This will eliminate the issue......
The older model's even the newer model's have this problem, the bypass plunger does not seat well and the spring is not stiff enough to make it seat, there for you lose oil pressure at low/idle rpm's and the oil does not get to where it need's to be thus making the engine run hot.............

Go buy yourself a temp gun from Harbor Freight and check your cylinder head temps the next time it does this, I believe this issue can be correct if the correct info is gathered............
