Hey Guys,so my Dad finally throws the green lite to fire up his bike that has been sitting for at least 12 years. It ran fine when parked, gas tanks good inside and she has been garaged. I have not even turned it over until I get some hints on firing up this dry motor.Just looking for some suggestions so as not to damage the motor. Thanx in advance!
Pretty sure that was not the answer he was looking for.
Change the fluids, spark plugs and make sure you have a good battery.
Wouldnt hurt to shoot a little oil in the cylinders as well.
Drain whatever fuel is in the tanks and carbs. You may have to clean the carbs. Turn it over prior to having spark to get things rolling around a little bit.
Fresh gas and a good battery should help to make things happy.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Cept the word is carb. There is only 1 carb, and 1 fuel tank on a superglide last time I checked!
The carb will need to be rebuilt due to gaskets drying out and some cracking my be involved. Tires need to be replaced due to dry rot. Fogging the cylinders with oil prior to any running of the engine will help to ensure the rings didn't stick to the cylinders. Spin the engine with the plugs out long enough to get oil pressure, maybe 15-30 seconds. Just so much it's hard to list on a forum. I don't have a clue on "compliance fittings", my 2002 Superglide must be out of compliance? Good luck.

Useless and rude answer. You could answer every technical question with that if you don`t have anything to offer.
hardhat67: we need to know the year of the bike, they have been making super glides since `71. The older the bike is, the more things you need to look out for.
Let us know.
