Default stator problems....

Just replaced my second stator in 3 mos. for my 2010 Ultra Classic.Only thing I have changed is I went to 45 amp bulbs in passing lamps. Is this too much for the system to handle? Thanks.

You mean 45 watt bulbs? Hardly noticed on a 45 amp charging system. The 3 phase charging systems Harley brought out (2007?) are decent enough IMO.

My '00 didn't have a 3 phase so I went aftermarket (CompuFire,) and haven't had an issue in 6 years and 100,000 miles so I'm a big fan.

Just for the cost difference if I had a 2010 though, I'd go Compufire or Cycle Electric before I'd go OEM again.

Went to Accel his time and went ahead and replaced the regulator too.Had the bulbs listed wrong....they are 55 amp bulbs.Guess I should go back to stock bulbs? I do know the bulbs get hot.Melted plastic housing on stock.Went to glass.

55 WATT not AMPS!! Wattage is determined by amps time volts so a 55 WATT bulb runs 4.48 amps (55 divided by 12 volts = 4.48 amps.)

Your whole charging system can't produce 55 amps! (Your 55 watt bulbs are not an issue.)

Sorry...meant to say watts. Thanks for the info.Maybe my regulator was bad and cause the second alternator to burn out.Started out with the voltage dropping at idle and slowly going back to 14 volts at cruising speed then dropped to nothing.Hope this last a while.Lots of work.

Stators don't go bad sporadically. When they're done, they're done so I'm betting it was your regulator too.
