AudioVox Cruise on '06 FLHT carb
Many moons ago I had an 84 Goldwing 1200 (stop throwing peanuts at the screen). That bike was absolutely awesome, but it lacked cruise control. I solved that by installing an Audiovox vacuum-driven cruise control system that I hooked up to the tach lead as the bike used a mechanical speed sensor. It worked pretty darn good too!
Anyways, now I have an 06 FLHT (carb'd) and am in the same dilemma. I have found a source for the OEM unit but I'll be damned if I pay $700+ for it. The Audiovox hasn't been made in years but I have a source under $200.
The unit requires a vacuum from either the heads or the carb, but it must have a canister to provide steady feeds. That shouldn't be hard to do. The real puzzler is where to mount the servo unit. Its a little smaller than a softball and needs to be somewhat close to the carb. My idea would mount it above the starter, but then I may have to route a cable up and over the rear jug under the tank. hmm. So, has anyone been here or am I the only cheap-skate not willing to shell out for the OEM part?
