Electrical NIGHTMARE
Here's the problem:
About 8 years ago, the charging/regulating components of my '98 Ultra were replaced with Cycle Electric High Output (45 amps) parts. Everything was perfect until 2 years ago.
On a ride, every light on the dash board lit up very bright then the main breaker popped - the bike went black. Had to replace the 5A fuse in the ECM to get restarted and damn near every light bulb on the bike was blown - headlight, passing lamps, brake/running lights even the small instrument bulbs burnt out, as well as the radio/communication unit. And so it began........
I've had wires replaced, the entire charging system replaced, every ground point "re-tightened". It's so bad now - the electrical surge/short/pulse whatever it is will occur while the bike is idling in my driveway.
Last summer I burned 9 headlights and 20 passing lamps in addition to brake, running and turn signal bulbs. The good folks at Radio Sound have reset the radio 4 times. The awesome folks at Cycle Electric have verified the integrity of the new components installed. I sent the parts back to them - they checked them out and returned everything with a clean bill.
Even the local Dealer is at a loss.............
Any ideas???????? Bike has 39000 miles!!!!!!
For example, I just repaired the charging system on my sport bike because it was overcharging slightly. A bad connection (high resistance & corrosion) in the positive side where the sensing wire for the regulator was making the bike charge high because the sense wire was seeing less voltage due to the resistance in the connector.
