Any electrical experts out there ?.
I just replaced the battery on my '02 flstc today. It was 6.5yrs old, I figured it was time. It was always on a battery tender when parked.
When I installed the new battery today, I noticed a small spark when connecting the ground cable. I measured and found 21ma of drain. when I pulled the fuse to the TSSM, the load disappeared. its carbureted, not FI, and I don't think there should be any draw when off. I ran it for about 25 mi, and rechecked when I shut it off, and it is still pulling 21ma when sitting.
Does that sound right ?.
The little spark is perfectly normal. If the bike has a TSSM, initially the drain is a little higher then drops after a minute or two. I forget the exact spec, you'd have to check the electrical manual. However, I doubt you have a problem.
The bike does not have a security system, so I am still a little puzzled why it would be pulling 21ma.
I will measure again tomorrow and see if after being shut down the problem goes away. And looking for the detailed elec troubleshooting manual..
No Problem. Your original post says TSSM that equals security. A TSM is non security. There is still a drain with a TSM, the radio memory and some other stuff. Are you sure it was 21 and not 2.1?
