Various Speedo/Tach Combos

I'm doing some research on the various speedo/tach combos that Harley currently sells, and I need to clarify something. I own a 2008 FXSTC Softail Custom, and would like to change the stock speedo with one of the combo units. The part number listed for my bike is 70900070B, which is the gauge and a transfer cable to reinstate the odometer reading straight off the ECU. For newer model softails, 2011 and up, they sell part number 74774-11C, which is just the gauge without the cable, with a statement that on these models, odometer reinstatement is not necessary. My question is, are the gauges the same between these part numbers with the difference being the cable, or are the gauge units different in some way? I understand why the odometer reinstatement is needed on mine, (via the cable), and not on newer models. I already own the cable that comes with 70900070B, and can get the 74774-11C model for much less here locally. Will the version for the newer softails work for my installation using the cable for reinstatement? Thanks...
