Default Left Turn Signal Indicator, High Beam Indicator Lights Out, Speedo Light Intermittent

2014 Road King Left Turn Signal Indicator, High Beam Indicator Lights Out, Speedo Back Light Intermittent

I searched the forum and see some folks have had similar problems with their indicator lights but to add to that I noticed last night that the speedo backlight would go out intermittently and come back on unrelated to bump or anything. Some of the posts mentioned replacing the entire wiring harness where the indicator leds are present but given the speedo situation are there some wires I should check – anyone have a similar situation on their Road King or similar dash equipped bike?

Can I buy that wiring harness from HD or is this heading into the dealership only a few days after buying…

I have no point of reference when or how this all started as I just bought the bike yesterday and the previous owners tells me he "never noticed a problem".

Thanks!

The sub wiring harness for your instrument cluster lights is a pretty straight forward part to change over.
It might be worth using a thin amount of clear silicone sealant around the edge of the light board where it fits to the underside of the console when you fit it as it is likely moisture getting into the original one that has caused it to fail.
The left turn and high beam seem to be the more common ones to go and I think it's likely due to the bike sitting on its side stand and then any moisture congregates on the left side of the cluster causing corrosion.

Your back lighting for the speedo going out may not actually be a problem. I can't be certain on your particular year bike but most of the newer bikes now come with a lighting level sensor which varies the amount of backlighting the speedo displays.
So in full sunshine, it's either off or virtually off and in darkness it should be at its brightest. Going through tunnels for example will cause it to change brightness.
Can't say for sure if that's what is happening to you but you can try tripping the sensor yourself by covering it with your hand in daylight and see what happens.

Good luck and enjoy your new bike. Perfect time of the year to have a new ride!

Ive had this problem twice now on my 2018 Road King.
The left turn and high beam indicator went out. I couldn't find any short. I replaced the LED and harness (sold as one unit) and it worked immediately;
3 months later, same issue.
My bike is garage kept, and yes I ride in the rain. I'm not convinced it's a corrosion/bad connection issue. It appears something is frying those 2 LED's.
Not wanting to keep buying a new unit, but like to know when my high beam is on (daytime) and left signal.
Anyone else having this issue with a Road King?

OWOF, I would check the voltage from your V/R to see if it is spiking above 16VDC. If so you may have an issue with it frying or check the grounds to see if they are good.

I have a 16 RK that had the no left signal/no high beam lights on my instrument panel. Had to replace the whole "console wiring harness". (After I had the panel reinstalled on my tank I wondered if I shouldn't have slathered the circuit board up with dielectric grease. If I have to do this again, I'm gonna do that. Sticking with the "if it ain't broke..." rule.

Also, f*** that front screw to put the instrument panel back on my tank. Anyone reading this and needs one, it's a 10-24 X 1/2 socket head (stainless).
