Default multimeter

Probably been done to death.... Did searches on here for multimeters and the lists it came up with were more about how to use them than anything else. Just looking for a quality multimeter that won't break the bank. I've always had flukes and can't afford a replacement right now. Mine met an untimely end and my 6 year old son is grounded for a bit. I know quality doesn't necessarily mean big price tag, so any models to check out would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You might want to look again at the Flukes. The prices on them has come way down since I last bought one. I was surprised by how low the price was on a kit I was looking at today.

depends upon what you are using it for.
believe it or not, hf has meters that can fill the bill at low $$$
electronic work, then you need a quality meter and a true rms. every day plinking, el cheapo!!
for electronic work, i use a fluke 8060a or a radio shack FET analog meter then i get to my sencor scopes.
a good meter that will not break the bank is a cen-tech automotive meter #95670 from hf . i have several freebie hf meters around and use them when i camp to check power issues, even some that include amp draw. the big advantage, smokem, no cry.
the most important thing to remember is the lead rating, never and i say never use a cheap or low rated lead, seen two people electrocuted because they exceeded the lead rating!!!

Lowes and other Big Box stores have decent meters for $30.

Fluke meters can be bought cheaper at HVAC and electrical supply houses. Depending upon the management of the supply house, they would probably allow you to purchase that item without needing a license (refrigeration\electrician), since a meter would not fall under parts/products that you would need a license for. One of these would probably serve your needs and be cheaper at the above places: https://www.tmart.com/Fluke-15B-F15B...kaAhINEALw_wcB

Thanks guys, I'll do some quick looking around. It's always automotive/bike use, so I tend to do quality, but good point about the cheapies. If my son had hammered a harbor freight, wouldn't have been as upset about it.
I've been looking at amazon as well. Seems they really have come down quite a bit since I bought my fluke years ago.
