Default quick disconnect for Zumo

I have a 2009 Electra Glide Classic, I'm currently using an old Garmin that I hard wired into the extra power lines near the headlight assembly under the fairing. I am using a quick disconnect so I can remove the GPS unit. I have a battery tender type connection that I plug the GPS unit into, I would like to do this same thing with the new Zumo 396 that I am getting. Has anyone done such a thing? Thinking it should work but thought I would get some advise.

Have you looking into the Road Tech Zumo 660 & 665 Fairing Mount Kit from HD?

No I ended up going with the Zummo 396 much cheaper than the HD products. And it did get very good reviews

I'm not understanding your response. The part I referred to is a mount, not a GPS unit.

It’s not the mount that I’m concerned with it’s the actual wiring. I can use the mount I’m currently using which is attached to the handle bar. My main concern was can I cut The power cord and splice it into a battery tender type connection. Then I can disconnect the GPS unit and the mount from the bike. The recommended way of wiring the GPS is directly to the battery. If I do that I can remove the GPS on the mount but the mount because of the wiring would be permanently attached to the bike.

I misunderstood your response.

really see no issues as long as you correctly match polarity, do not want to reverse charge the gps=smoke!!!
personally having switched power is the way i would go instead of direct to battery.
