Default Indicators - one side won't flash

Hi folks
I'm hoping someone might be able to help me.

I have an '83 FLTC tour glide which was working fine until it tipped over one day at a standstill. Crashbars saved it from damage and all seemed well apart from the indicators stopped working completely.

I sussed that the Lucas flasher unit had failed so replaced it which resulted in right side indicators working fine again, but left side come on but don't flash.

I've looked for bad earths, fixed a couple of poor connections and measured resistance between each earthing point so they are now within one ohm of each other.

Then turned my attention to the supply voltages to each lamp only to find they are well down to both front and back bulbs on left side compared to right side.

Following the circuit from battery to the left bulbs, the voltage drops at each stage as follows :-

Battery 12.2v (it was low after use all day without charge)
Flasher unit 11.53
Feed from flasher to handlebar switch 11.5 (green)
Output from switchgear 10.82
Supply at bulb holder 9.8 volts

To my mind the flasher won't flash unless 42 Watts is flowing through it, IE 2 X 21watt bulbs at full power, and if less than 10 volts is present at the bulbs this will not happen.

Is my thinking correct? How could I eradicate these voltage drops or are they to be expected?

Any other help would be welcome. Having gone over it all I cannot see what else to try.
The flasher must be ok as it is shared by both sides and one side works ok. The bulbs are ok as they light up but just don't flash on one side.

Help!

Thanks
Andy

Sounds like something got pinched after the tip over...don’t think in 1983 they had any tip over devices like today’s do....so my guess is wiring..you may want to investigate further for a pinch or break in there somewhere

Many thanks Crusader,
I've found the culprit. The new Flasher unit I'd bought was faulty. Got another and all works well again.
Much appreciate your advice.

Andy.
