Default Volt gauge

Anyone have just the volt gauge go bad? Gauge only? Had my gauge go to 0 while 400 miles from home. Changed out the regulator as google search said possible symptom of bad regulator was zero voltage. Didn't fix it. Said screw it and canon balled home. Other then gauge saying 0 bike ran like a top. Today I did all the stator and regulator tests in the stickies and all is good. I have full voltage at the wiring connector going into gauge. When I hook connector back up to the gauge it still reads 0. Tried cleaning the connections and still no go.

Check the voltage at the connector to the gauge. Should read same as regulator output when running, or battery when not running.
If you have no voltage at the gauge connector, your problem is wiring before the gauge.

Good reason to carry an el cheapo multimeter on the bike. If you are on the road and the volt gauge gives you concern, you can quickly determine if your charging system is yay or nay.

I have a 2011 Street Glide 103, I had my volt gauge start jumping around while I was rolling, but return to normal at a stop. I went to an event with the PGR and on my way home oil pressure gauge and air gauge started jumping around. After being told for over a year that nothing was wrong with the bikes electrical system, and having gauges, regulator replaced, i was continually told that we cant recreate the problem. So goPro camera in hand i made a video of the problem, and took bike and video to the shop, I was told that they would have to get HD support in on this problem......the end result is that once my front wheel bearing were replaced all my gauges returned to normal operation including volt gauge. Something to do with the slight grinding in the bearings distorted the harmonic balance of the gauge operation. Strange but true........
