I have a 2009 Rocker. The other day I rode about 180 miles stoped to fill up and went home. After parking outside the shed I went to put it up, put the key in the switch, and turned on the ignition and it started and the starter motor stayed engaged. Shut it down turned everything off and did it again with the same problem??? I’m hoping it’s something simple like a relay. I’m going to start taking it apart tomorrow night so any help would be appreciated !!!!

If you turn off the engine run/stop switch (kill switch) on the handlebar, does the starter continue to run?

 

No but it starts when I turn on the ignition and the starter continues to run

 

Set kill switch to "off " position.

Turn ignition switch on.

Does starter run without pressing button? If yes, stop.

If no, continue:

With ignition switch still in "on" position:

Set kill switch to "on" position.

Does starter run without pressing button?

 

Sounds like starter switch or wiring short to starter switch.
