One thing I have discovered with the Deutsch terminals (contacts). The crimp on the wire (conductor) is "B" shaped, but the crimp on the insulation needs to be a "D" shape. The arms for the insulation crimp are offset from one another, and they are meant to pass by each other and encircle the wire in the shape of a D or O. So if you are planning to use an inexpensive crimper and crimp in two steps, you will need a crimper that has both M shaped and D shaped dies. I am still experimenting and have ordered a Sargent 1026CT crimper that I am going to try out once it get's here. I am using smaller contacts than you, size 20 for the smaller DTM connectors.

another option would be to use solid contacts and a tool aid 18880 crimper for size16 contacts, I am going to try the 18890 crimper as well.

The crimper I posted a link to will properly crimp the contact onto the wire and the insulation in one step.
