Deutsch Connector Part Number Question
72106-94BK SEALED PIN HOUSING, BLACK, 6-PIN
74106-98BK PIN HOUSING, BLACK, 6 WAY
I'm looking to order some connectors and I want to make sure I order the correct ones. This is for a harness I want to make for the chrome auxiliary accessory switch housing kit.
brett
and the other two switches will just be wired up and ready, but not actively used right now.
The switch for the motolight will activate a relay which will power the lights. I didn't want to use the accessory switch on the fairing since I wanted to save the use of that switch for a potential HD accessory that needs to be wired up.
Yes, I do know I need to order the auxiliary on/off switch kit. I'm going to order three of them and wanted to just run all the wires once down the handlebars into the fairing and terminate into a Deutsch connector.
A little more research on my part and I was able to figure out what the differences are in the two part numbers. I sure wish the descriptions in the parts catalog were better!
72106-94BK SEALED PIN HOUSING, BLACK, 6-PIN
--> This is a Deutsch DT Series Connector
74106-98BK PIN HOUSING, BLACK, 6 WAY
---> This is a Deutsch DTM Series Connector
The differences between the two are the following:
Deutsch DT Series Connectors: Accepts size 16 (13 amp) pins and sockets, accommodates wire sizes 12-20 AWG
Deutsch DTM Series Connectors: Accepts size 20 (7.5 amp) pins and sockets, accommodates wire sizes 16-22 AWG
Dawg, thank you for responding. I learn a HUGE amount of information from your posts!
Perhaps before you undertake installng and wiring a three switch accessory on your handlebars, and reserving the ACC switched circuit for a future accessory, you would be better off simply installing the Motolights per their directions with their wiring harness which allows the Motolights to be turned on and off with the ACC switch on the fairing cap. That's how mine are installed and it's very simple.
