RKC - Accessory Switch Question
Installed my HD fog lamps last night on my '07 RKC according to the HD instructions. The lights look great and I'm very pleased with them, however the ON/OFF switch is a rather cheesy-looking button. I mounted the button on the left-side switch housing, but I wanted to use the spare accessory switch on the fork. So I looked behind the headlamp and found the connector for the switch, which is a pretty standard looking 4-pin connector.
So I went to the stealership and asked the parts dept guy if they sold the male side of the connector and if it was a matter of just wiring a connector into place and plugging it in. He went and talked to the service department guy who came back and told me that it was ALOT MORE involved than that. He said that it's not just a simple fix. Said the relay must be replaced and that if I just plugged in the wiring I could end up "blowing a whole bunch of fuses and possibly melting down the wiring harness. If that happens your warranty is shot." He said the service department could do it the right way in about an hour, which is $65.
Surely the stealership doesn't need $65 so bad that he would lie to me, right? I sure hope not, but my question is: "Has anyone wired fog lamps or anything else for that matter to the spare accessory switch?" If so, what, how and how has it worked.

I studied the wire diagrams in the service manuel for hours and see that the wires go to the 4 point deusch conector under seat. black wire from switch is ground ,orange and orange/violet go in a loop. o ro o/v forget but one goes to fuse too(hot?). Im very interested in similiar situation with connecting a gps on handlebars directly to switch,,,but witch wires? or a better way/place in my case for gps.

This might help....got this from the Zumo GPS thread on how to hook it up the acc. switch.
Under your seat there is a female connection just in front of your battery. I bought a split connection, part number 70264-94A, two sealed socket housing part number 72114-94BK, two secondary locks for the socket housings part number 72154-94 and eight stamped and formed female wire ends part number 72191-94. You only need two of the female wire ends, but since the connectors come with 4 sockets each, that is how they are sold I guess.
The Zumo bike connection has a black (ground) and red (positive) wire on it. The one with the fuse isthe positive. Once you pull the connection out and remove the cover on the end of it, you'll see 4 pins. One has power for the tail lights, one has power when the brake is applied, one has power for the accessary switch and the last on is the ground. You have to figure out which is which. Hook the wires accordingly to the male connectors (72154-94) and plug into the female connection on the bike. It sounds easier then it is. If you're able to troubleshoot electrical connections you won't have a problem, if not, it may be more difficult. Instructions are included with the split connector on how to hook up to an accessory. An other option would be to just hook the black wire to a ground and the red wire to positive side of the battery.
If you want further instructions, I can email you my phone number and I will be happy to help you that way.
Good luck.
