Ok, at whits end.
bought an 04 Road King and first big ride the battery died. Was older and replaced it. Rode a while again and a week or so later she died again.
Recharged, checked voltage and was reading 13.2V when started and was haopy but after revving first time it would only read 12.3V. Did some digging and stator was running 26Vac at idle, upto 70Vac revved. No ground issues
points to the Volt regulator so changed that out.
issue is still occuring.
The battery terminals are good, tight, still have 26-70Vac out of the stator, new regulator, new battery, wont charge the battery but when running maintains battery voltage, eg if I start it and it shows 12.3V it will run for an hour and show 12.3V when I get back. What am I missing?
Main CB, check the temp on the cables to the battery, are the terminals clean and free of corrosion? The VR goes to the silver side of the main Can and the battery goes to be copper side. These are the places where I would start, the main CB is a 40A common automotive CB so it is cheap and easiest to replace. The VR going to the other side of the CB than the battery allows the system to run without the battery when the engine is running as well as providing protection for the battery if the VR fails.

shoulda posted I figured it out, when I was diagnosing the initial issue I had a helper and they shoved the prongs of the voltmeter into the Stator plug so we could monitor it while doing other checks and at various RPMs. Their voltmeter prongs were so big it opened up the contacts to much that it didnt make contact anymore.. just used an old Tig rod to tighten them uo and shes been golden!
thanks for the help anyhow!
