Starter draining battery?

Starter draining battery?
I am at a loss and this is the last thing I can think of short of throwing parts at the bike. Stator tested good, 28 volts ac at idle and .4 ohms resistance
A while ago I made a dumb mistake and let the positive battery lead melt to the header, it collected some oil in it and started corroding. This killed my voltage regulator, so I replaced it. Week later, battery is dead again and the starter is taking A LOT of juice to crank, like 6 volts. On a new, fully charged battery as well
I'm assuming I also killed my starter? Thank you for any help
