I am trading for a 96 Heritage Soft tail this weekend. The bike I am trading for has electrical problems or so I am told. I have asked what it was doing and I am getting the Classic "it Won't start". I tried to get more details like, does it turn over and not fire or it doesn't turn over at all or what. But they don't know, the battery is dead and the bike has been sitting for a couple of years. I am not so worried about wiring or electrical, I enjoy trouble shooting them. As long as the engine isn't seized and has compression i will be trading for it. I was told that there was some things unplugged and they weren't sure what was done or undone. What I am looking for is a good wiring schematic so i can trace out things and see what was messed with. I am going to be picking up the service manual and a parts manual from Harley, just figured maybe i could find a schematic so i can start tinkering on it this weekend.
In short anyone have a recommendation for where to find a wiring schematic?
if you are getting the service manual, it should have the schematics. the portal is nice but you have to deal with a lot of unrelated material. have fun with down load.
i will see what i have and maybe i will be able to help if the manual you get is a bummer.
Upper right search for 1996 the click on Vehicle Documents - wiring diagrams - click on wiring diagrams again on the right side, it's the only choice.
The Wiring Diagrams & Trouble Shooting Guide open up. On the far right look for the three vertical dots - Menu - click on it, my only choice is print.
When you choose print it took more than a few minutes to download the manual then a few more minutes to give the preview for the printer..
Change the destination for the "print" from your printer to Save as PDF and save it to your hard drive. If you don't want the whole Manual choose the page range you want.
@Dan89FLSTC I've posted about this Facebook group before, Harley PDF Manual Trade & Share
This is where I have downloaded several manuals. It's a bit easier than than the SIP site. It's nice to be able to find schematics and information for the year and model in question so you're aware of any change made by the MoCo.
Some of the downloads appear to be exact copies of the original manuals others a bit different format, and some are useless.
But it's a resource to try to help people who are trying to learn a bit more about their bikes, and for the most part I think that's a good thing.

click on files and search eg 2014 and find the file you want
Click on the file and it will download, click on it to open. If you want to save it just download it to your hard drive.
I got the bike and had a chance to work on it and got it all figured out, brought it back to life. still gonna need some more work, but she is alive and running. Ended up needing a new battery, a broken wire spliced, a new ring terminal that was toast, a new starter and starter relay and the 30amp breaker. Changed the oil in the engine and new filter and primary oil since i had to take the primary cover off to change the starter. Took her for a spin and she is running good. A bunch of the gaskets need to be replaced so now i am on the hunt for a complete gasket set, ugh. Looking for recommendations, the cylinder base gaskets are toast they are weeping pretty good. and the primary gasket should probably be replaced since i took that off. so a complete gasket set is the next on my shopping list
Btw thank you all for the schematic help
