Yet another fast blinker...
A couple days back I started adding the compound docking hardware setup to accomodate both QD sideplates and QD saddlebags on my 05 FXST. Of course part of the project includes turn signal relocation.
I have Kuryakin mini-bullets for turn signals. Instead of going with the expensive and ugly strut extension kit that HD recommends, I decided to move the lights down to a bracket that I fabbed which mounts to the back of my tag bracket. Basically a 2" wide aluminum bracket the same width as the tag. Each end is a dog-eared and drilled out to hold the new lights. Looks sweet.
When I moved the lights, I clipped the wires under the fender, removed the lights, rerouted the wires, spliced them by hand, and then sealed with liquid electrical tape. After 3 coats, I wrapped them each with regular electrical tape, and put the wires back in the retainer clip up inside the fender.
While the bike is not running, the lights are fine. When it's running, particularly driving, the blinkers will flash about 5 times normally, then start the "fast busy" signal.
My gut tells me that the aluminum bracket is not grounding or something, and that I need to run a ground strap from behind each nut holding the lights back up under the fender somewhere.
Anyone care to offer suggestions?
