Ignition switch, Replace or Rebuild?
The ignition switch in my 2000 883 is giving up the ghost. I left the key on for a couple hours a couple years back and when I found out the switch was REALLY hot. Last year it started getting finicky as far as getting it to supply power to the ODO and lights I flushed it with contact cleaner and it got much better. Last night it stranded me, luckily I was only a couple miles from home so I came back with some contact cleaner, flushed the switch out and the bike took right off. My dealer said they can't get switches that are keyed to the VIN so I'm going to lose that if I replace the switch and all the switches on ebay for the newer bikes are pretty generic with a round key and I don't want to get into a bunch of Macgyvering to mount a new switch.
Anybody know if the guts in these are rebuildable?
What say you on fixing this, other than not being stupid and leaving the switch on!
