Default Stator Test Question?

In another thread I was asking about low voltage, this is related but a different matter, so I thought a new thread was the best.

In all the various instruction I've read for doing this, it states unplug stator at case.

I was unable to do this despite numerous attempts, so I disconnected the wires at the regulator and did my testing there.

I don't see how this would effect any test results , but thought I'd ask, would it make any difference?

All the tests read OK except voltage output, which was in the single digits.

So I think I found the problem.

Dis connecting at the regulator is the propper place. Be sure to check the continuity to ground at each of the wires. It shoud be 0. What model and year is the bike?

If the stator showed no continuity to ground, and 16-20 VAC/1000 RPM's
it should be good.

It looks like you have figured this out already, after reading both threads, it appears your voltage regulator is bad.
