Default missing on front cylinder

need some back up here, 07 ultra with 96 cc change to 103 engine only, used all 96 sensors and intake. Had a 40 plus year harley tech to do the swap in my neighbor hood and he stays busy. I am a 35 yr auto tech but did not want to tackle this job. Before he installed the motor and put in different cams that did not need longer push rods. The motor starts and idles decent but accellerate it the front cylinder quits firing, setting front o2 cold and no cumbustion code also on frt cyl and of course fouling the spark plug and he has given up on what is wrong. Today is the first time i heard the engine run without the air filter on it and when you speed it up it starts popping and blowing out the intake. when i see this on a car it is either an exhaust valve not opening or out of time. So is the front cam timed wrong or could he have the push rods switched. Does the short one go on the intake or the exhaust?

thanks Dwayne

Intake=silver/shorter, exhaust=black/longer. If the pushrods are installed backwards, no start; maybe pushrods are backwards on front cylinder only? If cam timing is off a tooth, motor will start but will not run right. Could have bent a valve adjusting pushrods. However, a tech with 40 years turning wrenches on Harley's is not likely to make those mistakes but...................

Check compression and see what that reveals.

i told him Sunday i thought the front cam was out of time or the cam was marked wrong so he agreed to tear it back down and ck it. Just like a car he had the front cam off a tooth or so. We all make mistakes but this one cost him a lot of time and headaches. In the end he made it right and everything is fine and i have a stronger bike. Thanks for the replies
