Default My first cam install....

Tried to install my first cam today and ran into some problems. So I stopped , put everything back together and went home to do a little research and it turns out that if you want to do a cam install without pulling the rockers on an 80" evo you're gonna need the S&S quickee rods, adjustables won't do it. So all the videos and forums that I read all said the same, cut the old pushrods and install quickee's. I thought that if you have adjustable pushrods that you don't need to cut them to remove them to be able to install a new cam. Hell my pushrods are brand new, not even 300 miles and I don't want to cut them.......Am I missing something???

If you still have the stock solid Rods you need to cut me out (bolt cutters). Do your cam install then install the adjustables. In the future when you want to do more cam work etc, you will just collapse the adjustables and do you work then readjust.

If you already have adjustables and swapping to quickies then just collapse them and reinstall new ones.

Well you don't have to pull the heads with adjustables but you have to pull the rockers. The quickies srink down shorter to pull out the side instead of the top.

hotrod, just pull the rocker covers/rockers like HarleyCruiser said. Keep the S&S adjustables in there. Stronger than the quickies.

If you have S&S standard adjustibles in there now, try loosening the lifter covers off and see if the prs will come out that way.

Default OK...

I was able to get everything back together tonight without have to change out my new S&S adjustable pushrods. It was a little bit of a challenge but with a little thought and patience i was able to get it done. So my new cam with my specs is in and I also installed new HL2T lifters and adjusted them as per S&S instructions, I cranked the motor over several time's with the plugs out and the ignition disconnected. I wanted to make sure that my oil pressure was up there. The bike hasn't been started since November and it wasn't sitting in a nice cozy heated Gayrage.....(only 47* tonight) After the pressure was up I installed the plug's, reconnected the plug wires, gave it 2 shot's from the accelerator pump and Bam.....Fired right up and didn't have to keep pumping the throttle to keep it running. It took about 4 minutes for the lifters to pump up all the way and from there it was just a sweat *** sound. The new cam ramps very well and I like the thump (actually i thought it was a little mellower) but the ramps were noticeably faster. I modified the woods w-8 cam. changed the valve timing and duration and in doing so I bumped up my dynamic cr (according to formulas) to 9.87:1. Once I get all my timing cures set I'll get it Dyno'd to see what it really has. Might be a while but I will get it posted.... Here's a video with sound, a little distorted but you'll get the idea...
