Hicksjay,
Good ideas indeed! If the woodpecker sound continues after replacing your lifters we can rule out another source as the cause. As you post your results please let us know what replacement lifters you used. As most using Woods Cams have had this sound, I am still leaning in that direction. I would still like to hear from those who have done the FM 107 Big Bore Kit and switched to a cam other than woods to see if they still have that woodpecker knock.

You can find threads on every cam, lifter, breather etc causing noise. I definitely do not believe that there is an issue with woods or FM. My motor has something specific a little out and we think this may be the key. I'm less worried about the reverb from the air cleaner and more concerned about the knock.
Picked up bike yesterday and went for a 200 mile ride. The knock is gone. Didn't appear to be anything bad looking about the ones removed but the problem is fixed and I'm happy.

So what fixed it, the turns or the new ac?
you added 2 full turns to each on top of the suggested? seems like a lot. I wonder why so much more
Hotrod got it. Not sure if the old lifters were bad , they looked fine. Pre-load was correct before but it may have gone away by removing and reinstalling the old lifters. We'll never know. Just glad it is quiet now.
Hey Wingman, I'm not sure that Hicksjay had the noise that you and I are referring to.
Hicksjay not trying to confuse anything and am glad your problem is resolved but did you isolate the exact source of the noise (as in location of the motor). I believe that wingman and I are talking about a noise ( a cluck) that clearly resonates back out from the intake and carb ( or throttle body) and if you take the air cleaner off it is even more prevalent.
