Worth checking the shaft movement in the rocker supports per the link HarleyCruiser posted; factory tolerances vary significantly from bike to bike and they were much tighter on the earlier models but still worth checking.

I have a 2003 FLHPI. The ticking you are hearing is from the play in the rockers, there are few products (i.e., rocker lockers) that are designed to quiet it, but whoever told you that's what they sound like is correct.
