There are many more cams than the two you have listed. I will tell you what I just posted in another similar post. Why listen to me or other forum members that have built a few of these motors when we have two forum sponsors like Hillside Cycles/Scott and VeeTwin Performance/Kirby that have built hundreds? Call them up, tell them what you want, pick one to work with and move on; all you need is time and money.

As it's been said it all depends on what you like;

-real snappy off idle but not huge at high rpm

-in 4th or 5th WOT hitting 100+mph feeling like you've been shot out of a cannon.

-or have it all, strong broad low-mid range that carries out, with good high rpm hp.

Guarantee if you leave it 96 you'll regret not going 107 next riding season. If you put together a solid 107 w heads etc..you'll be on here grinning ear to ear. Do the work once the right way and the above mentioned builders are the best resource for advice and services.

The problem with your 96 is low compression which really can't be properly addressed without a piston change and high compression 96 pistons just aren't available. About any cam above 48s requires 10+/1 compression to perform properly. Thus reason for bore.

THIS! I legitimately thank you. This makes more sense than the bast majority of responses (both here and IRL). Now for the 106 or 107.....thank you all!

No disrespect intended but I believe previous posters took it for granted that you had a grasp of the physics and the factors that create cylinder compression. I would suggest that if you don't, you might want to read up on static and corrected compression as well as cranking compression.

I tried to tell you first.

But thanking oldhipie is okay, I'm only a little hurt.

Everyone on here will generally give really good advice, based on experience. Good luck with it.
