Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
Here's a couple pix I snapped of the lack of space between gears. I made a plate to keep the cam locked in place so I can remove the pinion gear.
Any comments on the pix are welcome. They look really tight and the gap doesnt change all the way round when spinning the crank around. I again know this isnt scientific but Its what I got right now.
Sure looks tight to me. There's no 'lash' to measure currently. Undersize gears are pricey too if I recall but you don't have much choice.
LOL. yea they are a little pricey - bout $100. I talked to S&S and they said one down may do what I need.
I'm hoping I'm sitting at a good place with them being so tight. Way better then being too loose. I'm hoping one down will work perfectly. I know of NO trust worthy places here in my area. Closest one is 4hrs away. The local Stealer is more of a Tourist Tshirt shop. Wouldn't take a go cart there. Thanks for the input!

It looks like you have 0.0012" of backlash. I would say you need the oversized gear PN 33-4160Z-S. Pardon my sarcasm but there is no way to check these gears without a dial indicator. A psychic could do better than us looking at those pics.

HAHA. Yea I know. It's all I got so it is what it is at the moment. Thanks for the reply man.
Even if it is all you have to go on and if someone gave you what you thought was the correct gear I would not spend 5 minutes installing the gear without first getting a dial indicator. When we are talking about thousandths of an inch there is no way to measure that by eye. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, just trying to save you time and money.

No worries. I appreciate it. I'll have to order a dial indicator from somewhere. Thanks again.
When you try and move the gears against each other, do you have any free movement? I could just make mine 'tick' against each other. Yours look like they can't even do that.

Nope. The inner gears did but the outer ones not at all.
