.......... for oil seepage. Just got Pumpkin (2012 TS Limited) back from warranty service. At 12,000 miles I noticed some oil on the front cylinder fins (clutch side), specifically between the 4th and 5th. Thought some oil from a recent oil change somehow got blown up there. Cleaned it up and looked about 400 miles later and I see a oil sheen around the oil return port. Clean it again and started the research..... BTW the bike is running fantastic. I will mention the seepage always showed at about 400-500 miles after being cleaned, anything in the 100-200 mile no show
Learned a bit about casting issues and I was sold that was the issue. The area has no real pressure and it seeps, never dripped. I rode the bike and cleaned the cyclinder until the riding season was over and took it to the HD shop last week. Picked it up yesterday ..... Had the mechanic run me through the issue and sure as s***, both sides of the port blew air out of the port corners against the cylinder.
He told me it's rare today but if the cast has some issues the expansion and contraction will eventually show if the cast is bad. It sometimes take awhile to develop. I'm guessing some won't even notice it until after warranty.
I did have ESP and only purchased it because Pumpkin only had 750 miles on it and was 4 months from warranty running out when I bought her. Ticket showed just shy of 6 bills for this cylinder replacement. Check your jugs!
