JMHO but the SE204 would be a better choice than the 585. As Kirby pointed out in his post, not much point in cams with much more than .510" lift; the OEM heads can't take advantage of the higher lift. Run the 204; very underrated cam. Should you ever decide on head work, you can go with higher lift cams then.

EDIT: I just caught that you were referring to the SE585 cams, not the S&S585. So, I think it a toss up but still thinking the SE204 will work well at .510" lift; heads not much help after that. Mind what Kirby says about the OEM heads starting to flow backwards at .525" lift.

Not buying it either. I've spent way more money, on several occasions, (slow learner) for lesser results. Mostly because I didn't have anyone smarter to ask.

the only thing done to these heads are the springs to support the 259 cams and that is it ...

I must admit that the peak TQ number is a surprise and the curve after 3000 rpms is not bad but 100TQ between 2500-2800 rpms on a bagger is more to my liking; JMHO. The low HP number is not a surprise though. The OEM heads cannot take advantage of the potential HP to be gained from the higher lift cams and the larger T/B; although the larger T/B may be the reason for HP breaking 100. My point has been more "why bother" with cams and larger T/B which are designed to deliver HP but fail to take advantage by running OEM heads. I would expect to see HP numbers in the TQ range with head work and perhaps, a marginal increase in TQ, or at least moving the curve to the left a bit.

I just don't see the point of upgrading to a high lift cam and larger T/B and retaining the OEM heads; however, if 15flhx is happy, what I think doesn't matter.

Good job,
my first build with stock heads did 98/115, it's rare for (near) stock heads to get over 100hp.
Earlier torque would be better though, mine is making over 100 at 2200.

Bigger is still better !! Ha ha
