Right.... your cam corrected compression would be like 8.0:1 Don't know any one that would build that, and why?

I would suspect something going on there....check with the indy that originally built it to get beginning build specs.

Could have been caused by excessive heat or lack of oil on initial start up. How is your pressure? Make sure you change the oil often during break in. I would not be too concerned I had an Evo with the same issue did a cylinder leak down test with decent results. The cylinders looked worse than they actually were. As long as you getting good compression

how did the carbon build up look?
air cleaner up to snuff?
regular maintenance?
wrong cut on walls on install? seen this one many times.
confined to one area?

maybe the date needs to be in a highlighted color.
i do notice you do have a sharp eye. mine not so great!
