Default valve springs

I am thinking of putting the S&S 551 cams in my 05 Roadking . The heads on the engine now are off an 08 Streetglide and the jugs are S&S 97 inch Sidewinder kit . The dealership tech says I have to replace the valve springs but S&S says they should be ok . Will the springs be ok with these cams ?

If the springs in the '08 heads are OEM springs, no issue; the springs will be fine with those cams.

In addition to what djl says, 05/06 stock heads can handle up to .590 lift.

And since you have to remove the 08 heads to put the S&S jugs, might as well get some headwork done to support that build.

stock springs and stock heads. no need to change anything else. new torrington cam bearings would be the only other cost. too many people get too caught up in the tech stuff. it will run great and give you many miles of fun and pleasure

A 1.900" intake valve, with what we call our "Super-Stock" valve job, and some bowl work, would make those cylinder heads work better.

ide look at the S&S .583`s over the S&S .551`s,they carry out a bit longer (and yes, like everyone said, your springs will be fine)

A Wood 5-6 would be a good choice as well if looking for the rip off the bottom up thru the mid.

Default valve springs

The reason I am using the 551 cams is because S&S advised them with this combo . The 97 inch jugs and the 08 heads are already on the bike , but I don,t have enough cam. Sounds like the springs will be ok . thanks .
