Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
All in all this is good information. I will break out the t gauges and calipers and do some measuring. You guys have brought up some things I didn't even think about.
that motor will work fine if its from low mileage parts (all from same motor),
when you see these motors apart with 30,40,50,000 miles on them and they are still brand new, just gaskets need a freshen up in a lot of cases
OEM cylinders can be .002" out of round out of the box. The OP is rolling the dice if fitment is not checked but that is his call; he has been given sound advice; why take a chance.
Very interested in your build. I hope it works out very well for you....
I've been waiting for some one to do a budget build on a 103" motor with a woods 222. I believe with the right squeeze this build could get 115 torque and 107 hp. with stock heads milled to 85 cc and a .030 head gasket and if pistons are .010 in the hole it will yield 10.1:1 static and 9.52 dynamic with a ccp of 198 psi. I truly think it'll get there....
Not trying to steer you, I'm hoping someday to get a second bike, a 2014 Super Glide and do just this to the motor. with a good tuner and stock TB and pipes.
Susbscribed...

make sure the cylinders are checked, torque plated with a bore gauge, nit T gauges or calipers
Yep.
Measure the skirt, and dial the manufacturer's piston clearence into the micrometer dial, and "0" the dial bore guage to that reading.
Drop into the clean cylinder and measure top, middle, bottom, and 90 degrees from those as well, will tell the story.

Okay more good info, I will check them out with my tools, and I will be talking to the machinist to see how we need to proceed, piece of mind is worth a lot to me. I want to enjoy riding this thing when it gets back together. This bike is a daily driver with the occasional wild hair mixed in.
Okay, a little update, I acquired a set of 103 heads with compression releases, a coworker had them setting on a shelf for the last couple of years. He removed them at 162 miles to replace them with a set of SE heads.
