New problem started about half way through last summer. I'm hearing a louder tick when im sitting at idle. When I'm on the bike it sounds like its comming from the primary. I checked everything with a stethascope cams pushrods lifters rocker boxes even the primary cant hear anything out of the ordinary. But i put the stethascope on the frame and its really loud. Im baffled. I looked for loose bolts on just about everything. Even adjusted the pushrods a couple times. Im running a 2012 fltrx 103 with woods 555 cams comp cams adjustable pushrods and v thunder (dalphi) lifters a V&H propipe and the SERT (should have gotten dynojet) did all the work myself never had problems and the tick came up randomly. Never changed anything to make it happen. Could it be my compensator? I have 45,000 miles on it. Any ideas? Anything would be much appreciated. Thanks ~Bubba
Rocker shaft movement could be the problem. There are two similar products, both cheap fixes for a very common and annoying problem. Tick could be from a variety of sources but eliminating rocker shaft movement as a cause is quick, easy and cheap to address; I would look there first............

Take your timing cover off and take a look see. I had a chain tensioner shoe worn out, at the same mileage. I kept thinking I had a bad lifter. The shoe had worn down so that the piston was wearing against the chain. Only clattered at idle( lower oil pressure ).
