When changing the cams out does anyone suggest also replacing the two thrust washers that sit on the ends of the cams on the outside of the support plate? I got a new snap ring but didn't get new thrust washers. Are the thrust washers the same or is there a difference? I took them off and didn't pay attention to which cam each of the washers was originally on.

they may or may not need to be changed, you have to make sure they are the right thickness to align the chain

Ok so I've been trying to get the cam plate back into the cam chest and the thing wont go all the way in. I installed the oil pump separately and have made sure that pump is properly inserted into the o-ring. The cams are installed into the plate and the thrust washers are on along with snap ring on front cam. The secondary chain tensioner is installed and torqued to spec. It looks like the ends of the cams are hitting on the cam bearings. The SM says to use a rubber mallet to firmly seat the plate but I really don't want to do that. I've also tried rotating the pinion shaft but that also didn't work. Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

some times you have to kind of work it in as the tension on the chain will slightly pull the ends of the cams together.with slight pushing, they should slip right in,DONT use a mallet to do it,im sure what therir talking about there is once the cam plate is in (and on the dowl pins) to just seat it all the way, even though I wouldn't recommend ever hitting the plate with a mallet

Thanks prodrag1320. I've tried every which way and just can't get the cams to slip into the bearings. I think I might remove the chain tensioner and try without it just to see if maybe it's not a cam issue. Don't know what else to do.

Ok I found the problem but am still fu**ed!
I took the secondary chain tensioner off and it didn't make a difference. It still would not fit. So then I took the cams back out of the plate and tried to fit them individually just to make sure they would fit at all. The front cam fits with a very small amount of play. The rear cam will not fit at all into the cam bearing. What should I do. Call Andrews? get new bearings? I'm lost as to what the solution should be. Have any of you seen this before?

What cams? Did you change the inner cam bearings and if so what bearing did you use to replace them with? One cam fitting but the other not?? Very odd!

Brand new Torrington B-168 bearings and Andrews 54-H cams. I just tried my old CVO-255 and they fit in perfect. I put my micrometer on them. The Andrews measured .998 on the front cam and 1.011 on the rear cam. I compared to my CVO 255's that I removed and the measurements were .998 for both front and rear cams. Unless i'm wrong it looks like Andrews rear cam is out of spec. WTF?

spoke to Gary at Andrews and he said that 1.011" is way out of spec. and to ship it back. Hope it's a fast turnaround as riding weather is here and we don't get much up here.
