Default What Would Be Considered Normal

Hey folks, just got done installing new lifters, Rockouts, and increasing the size the drainholes under the breather. Used stock PRs since I went in through the top. Was wondering what would be considered a normal time frame for the new lifters to fully pump up? Running SE255 cams in a 103 with Mobil1 20w50 if that helps.

Assuming oil pump has been installed correctly, they could rattle for a minute or more before the lifters pump up and quiet things down.

So it seems everything was reinstalled right. Built oil pressure right away as it always had. Lifters, despite being soaked in oil, were pretty noisy for the first couple of minutes. Winter here in Chicago so I let it just idle for a bit to start warming the oil before I increased the rpms at all. Once it felt like it was warming up I goosed it to about 2k and held it there for about 30 seconds. Everything really quieted down after that. Still have a little ticking that sounds like it's coming from the front jug. Supposed to be warm enough to get a ride in this weekend so I'll give it a couple rides before deciding if I should swap out the stock PRs for the set of adjustable rods I have here.

I have a tool for oiling engines before starting. It looks like aluminum bottle with hose. You fill 2/3 of the bottle with oil, then pump air. Remove oil pressure switch and pump oil in the hole. This tool lets you pump up to 150 psi, which is about twice pressure than any engine can pump.
I bought it from NAPA. It is tool for flushing AC systems, but I only use it for preoiling engines.

Mine only took about 5 seconds. I had the lifters soaking in oil over night, then used an oil squirt can to pump oil in through the oil port. Adjustable pushrods. Since I had the oil pump off too, all new seals and I filled the oil pump AND the new oil filter with oil before installing those.

I'd imagine it would have taken a bit longer had I not done those steps.

I think this step would have made a big difference, if I'd have had one or thought about it. I did soak them but there's no way of knowing how much actually gets in without disassembling them to check. Going to get a ride or two in before deciding whether or not to swap out for the adjustable pushrods.

If you are using heavier valve springs than stock 103 heads the cams can tick a little..

Still has the stock heads and valve springs. Got out for a ride today and it was almost the same deal. Noisy when I started it up and stayed that way for the first little bit. Not as noisy as the initial start after installation or for as long but there was definitely still some of the tapping sound. After the first 1/2 mile it was nice and quiet.

A month ago I installed Andrews 48 S&S lifters and their adj pushrods.I adjusted the push rods 4 turns and 2 flats.
When I first started it the lifters made noise for only a few seconds the quieted down allot. But just like you I also have a slight tic. It's between 2000 -2300 rpm sounding like its coming from the front jug. At first I thought it was a exhaust leak, but I have checked and have no exhaust leak.
The tic is driving me nuts I can't find it

Are you sure it's not a toc coming from the air intake?
