Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
the small 883 ports are not really the issue, its that the 883 chambers are a lot smaller than 1200 chambers and unless you use dished pistons or open up the 883 chambers, you`ll be running a lot more compression than you want (unless your setting up a very high compression motor,& in that case, you shouldn't run a OEM cast piston)
Basically just getting Pistons jugs and heads and ordering a gasket set to finish it off these are all take off parts from another 1200 considering also swapping cams bring the donor bike was 1200s but was told it wasn't necessary
Depending on the year of the 1200s it will have dual plug heads and 10:1 compression. So a set of performance cams may work well for you. SE 496 cams would be nice as well as n4. If on the cheap a used set of stock W cams will be a nice upgrade to what you have. The S motor when set up with dual log was an ice motor with great mileage
Edit: I would keep the 883 heads in case you decide to do a performance build. Those heads are nice to work with if you decide to have them reworked. Also that allows you to keep riding your build whale parts are off getting reworked.
