Default 96 with 103 jugs?

i have a 2008 ultra with a 96 one of my friends just upgraded his 2011 glide and is giving me a hell of a deal for his 103 jugs and pistons, so heres my question the 103 jugs should bolt right up to my 96 and i use my 96 heads? i also plain on getting se 255 cams to go with it, i know i have to get the bike tuned after but what else do i needs to get for this build

Jugs are the same just get yours bored,to match 103 piston.if you get his jugs you will need to get piston 10 thousandth oversized and have the jugs you bought bored to match the pistons,so it would be the same cost plus buying his jugs.why stop at 103 just go 107 and get a better cam than the 255. You will be proud you did after you get done and ride it

you got a good point, or i might just upgrade the cams on my 96 and keep the stock jugs i can keep up with most 103 bikes i just need that extra kick and try to do a budget build but I know it's hard with a Harley

Bore the 103 jugs. Get cams lifters and pushrods for where you want the power. Do all of this why you are still riding the bike. When you have everything ready then tear it down.

As stated the cylinders and pistons will fit getting you 103 ci.. While 96 heads are pretty much the same, they don't have automatic compression releases. You will likely need compression releases installed (manual or automatic) depending on the cam chosen..

If your friends cylinders and pistons are in good condition and the fitment is within spec, why not use them rather than spend the money on a bore job and new pistons. Just tell your friend that you need to have the piston to cylinder fitment checked before money changes hands (by someone that uses torque plates and knows what to measure). If fitment is within spec, all the OP needs is a quick pass with the proper hone to remove the glaze and a new set of rings; boom, nearly a 10% increase in displacement for little money.

As Max suggested, compression releases would be a good idea along with a "performance" valve job, cleanup and new guide seals. Add one of several bolt in cams, get the motor tuned and the OP has that extra kick he is looking for.
